Working for a marketing agency can be a very rewarding and lucrative career. For all you creative types among our Dubai youth you have the chance to use your digital knowledge and put it into practice using the latest high tech equipment. It’s no wonder that working for a marketing agency is a very popular career choice for many of you today, so I’m going to give you an honest insight into what it’s like.

Some larger agencies tend to be called integrated advertising agencies as they incorporate the digital side that deals with the internet and communications, the media side that do creative planning and work alongside an advertising agency and the marketing agency that offer branding advice and work on research. However many agencies have stayed traditional and have just grown along with all the new media.

So, anyway, here are a few pros and cons on working in the marketing agency world!

The pros of working in small marketing agency are that you will feel part of close group, you will probably have more responsibility and the working environment will be very straight forward. The cons are that you will be expected to work long hours, and very often working alone without a creative resource for help.

Medium sized agencies generally have specific departments that help the teams and many clients prefer these agencies as they still offer that personal touch while having various professionals to do the work. As medium agencies become more popular with top brands employees have a better chance of moving up the career ladder. The only con here is that they have a large turnover of staff as for many employees these agencies are a stepping stone to the bigwigs.

So you have made it through the door of a huge marketing agency and you are looking forward to the shorter hours, great salary and a more relaxed working environment. My only advice is to be prepared for hours of meetings, a huge team of people working for the same client or project and of course the office politics. For the best experience I would start small as you will gain valuable knowledge that will be useful later.

The marketing and advertising world is changing all the time as traditional agencies are merging more and more with digital media. Employees have to be more flexible as they work alongside a wider range of competitive personalities.
